Dose of Digital Dosie awards: Our award winners

The deadline to vote for the Dose of Digital awards are here, and while there is quite a lot of online activity that originates in the US, where regulations are very different to the UK, there’s quite a lot to be inspired by…


The Crohn’s and Me and TuDiabetes patient communities won our vote for showing how bespoke social networks can support patients in a lot of ways and provide a lot of tools and functionality that the usual networks like Facebook might sometimes lack. On the healthcare professional side, we went for Sermo, simply based on the strength of the network which enables physicians across the world to solve clinical problems by sharing expertise and best practice online (although we were also impressed by the British Medical Journal’s doc2doc network, which looks like a great place for doctors to connect through sharing opinions).

We went for the underdog for the Best Facebook Page and voted for The Coalition to Prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) for having a highly active and network with regularly updated content. Johnson & Johnson won our vote for the Best YouTube Channel most notably for the cheesy but hilarious video ‘The Appointment’ telling men why they really should ‘keep the appointment’ and the risks if they don’t (more fun pharma videos like this would make for great internet fodder!) Roche won our vote for Best Twitter Feed since they have so many well tailored and organised profiles for various purposes.

Our award for the Best Company Blog went to GSK’s More Than Medicine for so competently treading the line between personal and friendly (as blogs and social networks should all be in some degree) and professional and topical (as any company blog must always be). We gave our Best Patient Blog nomination to Six Until Me for being so personal and engaging and our final award was given to ePharma Rx for the Best Industry Observer Blog for providing really useful content in a highly readable, enjoyable format.

Hopefully this time next year we’ll be in a position to be raving about some great UK and European based healthcare social media case studies. But for now, these are all worth checking out for a bit of inspiration…
